Who is eligible to vote in the Whistler election?

You can vote in the election if you:

Are a Canadian citizen

Are 18 years of age or older on general voting day. (October 20, 2018)

Have lived in B.C. for at least six (6) months

Have lived in Whistler for at least thirty (30) days; and

Are not disqualified by law from voting.

All Whistler residents who meet these requirements can vote. It does not matter whether you rent or own your home.

If you own property in Whistler but live somewhere else in B.C., you can also vote in the election. This is called being a “non-resident property elector.” As such, you can vote, as long as you:

Are a Canadian citizen

Are 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 20, 2018).

Have lived in B.C. for at least six (6) months

Have owned real estate in Whistler, registered in your name, for at least thirty (30) days; and

Are not disqualified by law from voting.

Non-resident property electors can vote only once, regardless of the number of properties they own. If there is more than one registered owner of a property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the other owners, register as a non-resident property elector. *Landed immigrants who are not yet Canadian citizens are not permitted to vote in civic elections.
*Corporations are not entitled to vote.

Please Note: A person may register as a non-resident property elector only in relation to one parcel of real property in a municipality or electoral area.

When to Vote

October 10 is the first Advance Voting day.

October 13 is the second Advance Voting day.

If you are eligible to vote but not in town for voting days, October 18 is the last day to fill out an “Application to Vote by Mail” form; last day to send out mail ballot packages.

October 20 is General Voting day.

October 24 is the day the results are declared.
